Pom-Poms

I've been playing with pom-poms lately, and have added a few to previously completed hats.

Here's the completed pink-tailed elf hat:

Cat Toy

It seems that the cats are constantly trying to steal scraps of wool roving out of my yarn collection, and leaving them scattered throughout the house. So I figured I'd try to keep them out of my stuff by making a cat toy out of the scraps. Success!

I made the fish using wool roving, cotton stuffing, and a pinch of catnip.

PATTERN:
  1. Start with 8 single crochet, using a magic circle. Join with slip stitch.
  2. Chain 1, 3 SC, 2 SC in next st, 3 SC, 2 SC in next st. (do not join)
  3. 4 SC, 2 SC in next st, 4 SC, 2 SC in next st.
  4. 5 SC, 2 SC in next st, 5 SC, 2 SC in next st.
  5. 6 SC, 2 SC in next st, 6 SC, 2 SC in next st.

  7. 8 SC, 2 SC in next st, 8 SC, 2 SC in next st.

  11. 7 SC, decr by 1 in next 2 st, 7 SC, decr by 1 in next 2 st.

Cupcake Hat

This cupcake is my latest (and most delicious!) creation yet.

Materials:
Red Heart SuperSaver (100% acrylic), Light Pink
Red Heart SuperSaver (100% acrylic), Brown
Lily Sugar 'n Cream (100% acrylic), Sage Green

Pattern:
For the upper portion of the cupcake, I began with a simple newborn hat pattern using single crochet, alternating rounds of single crochet with increasing rounds. Once the top was large enough, I created the ruffled edge using a combination of SC, HDC, & DC stitches.

The ribbed lower portion, representing the cupcake wrapper, was created entirely in DC, alternating front post & back post stitches.

For the rose, I modified this rose pattern to create a smaller version of the flower and leaves.

The sprinkles on the cupcake were actually the hardest part. To create those, I tied several knots on a long piece of yarn, then pulled the knots to the visible part of the hat while leaving the rest of the yarn visible on the underside.
